Reopening of St. Kitts and Nevis

Following months of closure, the government of St Kitts and Nevis has announced that visitors will once more be welcomed from October. At the time of writing, we have no active Covid-19 cases on the islands and all 17 cases have fully recovered and returned home. Measures have been strict but people have adhered to them with a commendable determination: masks, quarantine and isolation in a Caribbean idyll presents a particularly odd paradox.

Borders have been shut for months, the only people allowed on the islands being returning nationals and their families. All arrivals have been required to quarantine for 14 days, and then to follow the protocol on the islands: keep six feet apart, wash hands frequently, and wear masks in all public spaces. Beaches are now open from 5am until 2am. The success of overcoming Covid-19 has been hard won and the re-opening of borders in October is a reward we will share with you.

Four Seasons Resort Nevis

The major hotels are all preparing to re-open in October, and all members of staff have taken part in the government sponsored training scheme to ensure they follow the new protocols designed to keep Covid-19 at bay. At a cost of US$100 per person, all those who work in the tourism industry – whether in a bar, a restaurant, a car rental company or as a cleaner – have had the course paid for by the St Kitts and Nevis government. This, surely, is a demonstration of just how seriously the pandemic has been taken on the islands, and indeed will be taken in the coming months.

The Prime Minister personally visited the Four Seasons on Nevis and addressed all members of staff, reassuring them that the protocols are in place as much for their safety as for the guests. Schools will be reopening in a few weeks' time, with students and staff well aware of the new guidelines in place that will ensure a safe learning environment for everyone.

All of Nevis Style Realty's personnel – including house cleaners, gardeners, technicians and pool cleaners – have attended the government training sessions, and we are all proud to represent an island that has dealt more effectively with the global catastrophe than all of the world's major economies and primary tourism destinations.

Views of Caribbean Sea

A unique partnership has been born out of the crisis: a Caribbean Group of Eight has been formed, representing Nevis, St Kitts, Saba, Statia, French Saint Martin, Dutch St. Maarten, Anguilla and St. Barths. New possibilities are being generated for intra-regional travel between these eight charmingly different islands, representing a unique blend of former Dutch, British and French territories that all have their own identities and styles.

As the islands slowly open up in October, we look forwards to welcoming back old friends and seeing new faces. We have kept your island retreat safe in your absence, and we look forward to sharing our corner of paradise once more.
